"The budgeted spending for IT in 2004 is expected to loosen up compared to the 2003 level. It is likely that the IT managers will increase the spending on tape media. IDC still expects IT managers or CTOs will remain prudent in their purchasing with some additional budget allocated by users for tape media purchases due to the higher data volume the needs to be backed up or archived leading to increased usage of the tape media. This, in turn, will provide opportunities for tape storage media. The low-end formats are expected to continue to be high volume segment of the tape media market, with midrange formats showing higher growth rates due to the adoption of tape automation by the medium- and large-size organizations," said Martin Wijaya, Senior Analyst of IDC Asia/Pacific Storage Research.
