This IDC study presents IDC's forecast for the public WLAN hotspot access market in Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) or APEJ covering the period 2003?2008. The analysis provides forecasts on the total number of available locations, users and revenue with qualitative analysis for 10 country markets ? Australia, Hong Kong, India, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, the People's Republic of China (PRC), Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand.
"The public WLAN hotspot service market in APEJ showed strong growth in 2003, but saw a slow down in build out during 2004. This was partially due to uncertainty in the PRC market regarding the WAPI standard, which ultimately did not proceed," says Tim Crowley, research manager, IP Services. "Overall, service providers active in this space are monitoring usage patterns of current end users in an effort to gauge the revenue and business models that will best make PWLAN hotspots a long-term success."
