This IDC update highlights the announcements and other significant activities that took place in the application development and deployment market in 2006. This bulletin is a summary of the key events that shaped the application development and deployment market in the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) or APEJ region. Notable highlights include:
Service oriented architecture (SOA) gained significant momentum among vendors. Strategic acquisitions and the release of new SOA-enabled versions of software were some of the ways in which vendors announced their presence in the SOA space. Some SOA solutions were also open source enabled.
The open source initiative was widely embraced by big and small vendors alike. The creation of open source?based projects, the release of source codes, and the push toward open source enabling applications were some of the ways in which vendors established their support for the movement.
As vendors are realizing the potential in the People's Republic of China (PRC), an increasing number of R&D and support centers have been cropping up around the country. In particular, vendors have begun to establish their presence in the smaller cities of the PRC, by increasing their headcount and partners.
A few vendors are introducing software solutions that are specifically positioned for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs).
