Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) stole the limelight among the enterprise application vendors. An increasing number of packaged applications from large and niche software vendors were updated to suit the needs of these SMB organizations.
Vertical-specific applications continued to dominate the enterprise applications market. Niche vendors debuted solutions with industry-specific functionalities to differentiate themselves from the larger software vendors. On the other hand, larger vendors continued to update their enterprise suite applications to increase their vertical-specific components and capabilities.
