| This IDC study examines the growing importance of IT Asset Management systems
for companies and their new role in successfully delivering utility computing
services.
"Companies that are selling or internally deploying utility services need to
have a robust set of IT asset management tools," says Steve Poelking, Director,
Infrastructure and Applications Products and Services, IDC Canada. "A
fundamental principle of utility operations is robust network stability and
reliability, and IT asset management tools assist firms in making the
predictive, pro-active work necessary to effect that."
IDC Canada therefore recommends
y Users need to devote more attention to IT asset management systems specific
to their environment and especially when they are considering or IT services on
a utility basis;
y Users should look for a high degree of integration between IT asset
management systems and network and system management software. Knowing the
health of their IT assets and the delivery performance of their IT services
will provide better insight into the "cause-and-effect" relationship between
the two and guidance about how to improve their IT operations.
