This IDC study presents IDC's market sizing, forecast, and analysis of the Australian smart handheld device (SHD) market, which comprises traditional PDAs and converged devices. The former, which remains largely consumer-focused products, is a growing but maturing market, while the latter, also known as the smart phone market, is at the cusp of the wireless data boom as mobile devices capable of both voice and data gain traction among business users.

"The Australian SHD market will continue to experience very healthy growth throughout the forecast period, with advancements in display, memory, expansion, imaging, processors, and wireless technologies acting as major drivers," says Warren Chaisatien, IDC Australia's Senior Analyst for Mobile and Wireless Solutions. He adds that investments in brands and solutions, partnerships within the wireless solution ecosystem, and mobile data pricing affordability and predictability are some of the factors crucial to the growth of the SHD and mobile data markets in Australia.
