Broadband Gets Big: Global Broadband Subs Hit 285 Million

Global demand for broadband services continues to be strong. Over the past twelve months, approximately 65 million new broadband subscribers signed up for high-speed access to the Internet. With these new subscribers, the total of global broadband subscribers hit 285 million in May 2007.
The principal market drivers for the adoption of broadband service is pretty straightforward: people want to access the Internet with a higher-speed connection. Beyond this basic desire, the emergence of online applications, such as viewing video clips or TV programming, downloading music files, and even playing online games, are also fueling end-user demand for "fatter pipes" that provide ever-increasing amounts of bandwidth.
