Competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs) have, rightfully, prided themselves
on their nimbleness and their ability to seize opportunities as they pop up much more
effectively than their “more deliberate” competitors - the ILECs. Nowhere is this better
reflected than in the CLEC experience in the data communications markets.
Contrary to some opinions, CLECs have not “planned” on their success in
providing data services. Rather the tremendous success CLECs have had in these
markets is a reflection of these companies’ collective abilities to quickly recognize an
opportunity and then, just as quickly, seize it.
In this month’s edition of New Paradigm Resources Group, Inc.’s (NPRG) CLEC
Issues, we thought it would be both interesting and insightful to explore how one CLEC,
Intermedia Communications, entered the data services arena and was able to translate this
into a huge win.
