This IDC study addresses which Internet service provider (ISP) led the U.S. Internet access market at the end of the first quarter in 2004. IDC ranks the top 10 U.S. consumer ISPs and identifies competitive strategies of ISPs moving up the top 10 list. Highlights include the following:
AOL continues to dominate the ISP access market; however, AOL's market share is on a steady decline.
Comcast has surpassed MSN on the top 10 list.
NetZero/Juno has surpassed MSN on the top 10 list.
"To increase ISP account growth and decrease churn, successful ISPs are bundling in value-added security, antispam, and entertainment features to improve the online experience," said Wu Zhou, research analyst for IDC's Converged Communications Services program.
