This IDC study presents our top 10 U.S. Internet service provider (ISP) list, which remains relatively stable. AOL is still the dominant market leader for consumer Internet access accounts in the third quarter of 2004. Between 3Q03 and 3Q04, however, AOL lost more than 9% market share. The largest annual market share gainer is NetZero/Juno, followed closely by Comcast. Highlights from the third quarter of 2004 include the following:
Comcast's ISP market share grew 9.3% quarter over quarter, from 6.4% to 7% of total U.S. subscribers.
AOL, NetZero, and EarthLink all lost market share in 3Q04. NetZero, however, garnered a 30% growth in its market share year over year, jumping from 5.7% to 7.4% of total U.S. subscribers.
MSN lost more than 40% of its market share on a year-over-year basis, dropping from 9% in 3Q03 to just 5.1% market share in 3Q04.
