The Czech Republic’s consumer electronics devices market is forecast to increase at a 2010-2013 CAGRof 4.5% to US$5.3bn by 2013, driven by the growing popularity of digital lifestyle products such as flatscreen TV sets, and by rising incomes and lower prices. Vendors continue to face a challenging tradingenvironment in 2009, but there should be a number of growth areas.

A digital TV broadcasting signal is now available to more than 50% of Czech households, fuellingcontinued growth in the premium TV segment, as Czech consumers upgrade their TV sets. Meanwhile, growing fixed and mobile broadband penetration will fuel demand for mobile connectivity devices suchas netbook computers and smartphones.

Computers

Computer hardware accounted for around 49% of Czech consumer electronics spending in 2008 and willcontinue to be the largest product segment. BMI forecasts Czech domestic market computer sales(including notebooks and accessories) of US$2.2bn in 2009, with little growth from 2008. Computerhardware CAGR for the 2009-2013 period is forecast at about 8.6%, driven by demand for wirelessequippednotebooks and netbooks.

AV Devices

AV devices accounted for around 39% of Czech consumer electronics spending in 2008. The CzechRepublic’s addressable AV device market is estimated at US$1.8bn this year. Despite expected negativegrowth in 2009, a CAGR of 2% is projected for 2009-2013, due largely to continued growth in the digitalTV set category as the country progresses towards a 2011 analogue switch-off date.

Mobile Handsets

Mobile handset sales accounted for around 12% of Czech consumer electronics spending in 2008. Czechmarket handset sales are expected to grow at a CAGR of 2.4% to US$589mn in 2013, as mobilesubscriber penetration reaches 146%. In 2009 the economic downturn put pressure on average mobilehandset retail prices, which were down 15.4% year-on-year (y-o-y) in July 2009, according to figuresfrom the Czech Statistics Office (CSI). Sales will be dominated by the replacement market, with growingdemand for high-end models and 3G handsets, boosted by a growing 3G subscriber base for Vodafoneand other operators.
