There exists quite a hodgepodge of Wi-Fi-enabled devices within the business premise. On the infrastructure side, the most compelling trend is the increasing penetration of low-end wireless routers and gateways into the business premise, commonly deployed in small businesses or branch offices, or departments of medium or large businesses.

Large-scale deployments of high-end APs have experienced only slow growth. Not only have businesses cited security as a major concern, but also the basic justification for providing WLAN throughout their business, especially where the majority of workers are not highly mobile during the workday. Naturally, the growth of laptops (in which embedded Wi-Fi is practically standard) in the business has been spurring an interest among workers to be able to wirelessly access the network at their business. Unsurprisingly, small businesses, branch offices, and departments of medium and large businesses have turned to off-the-shelf, sub-$100, wireless aggregators to enable wireless LAN for their workgroup or small office.

Slow growth continues in the highly-vertical Enterprise Wi-Fi-only phone space, where SpectraLink and Cisco continue to duke it out. The promise of high volumes comes from the expected growth of combination Wi-Fi and cellular handsets, especially in the later years of the forecast period; although, In-Stat believes that these combination phones will experience the heaviest growth in the home.
