The growth of fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) in the Asia-Pacific residential market is almost entirely at the expense of DSL, which is already losing overall connection share. From 2007 we expect total DSL connections in the advanced areas of Asia-Pacific to begin falling as well. Many of these are Japanese and Korean FTTP/DSL connections which can be readily converted to FTTP/LAN. In contrast, we expect cable to experience only a marginal loss of market share to 2010, and to keep growing connections beyond 2010.
