This report presents a detailed analysis of the Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) market. The FPGA represents the largest segment in the User-Programmable Logic (UPL) Market, as defined by the SIA. FPGAs are targeted at a wide variety of purposes, ranging from simple glue logic in a number of low-cost products, to development platforms for much higher-complexity designs. Prices and volumes vary as well, but are considerably lower than the investment in a fully customized solution. The use of the FPGA has similarities to its customer-specific, standard cell relative, most notably in meeting multiple system design requirements and/or applications via the use of a single device, with its main advantage being its reconfigurability and low development costs. This market is forecast to grow from $1,895.0 million in 2005 to $2,756.7 million by 2010.

The programming of FPGAs is divided into three major segments: SRAM-based, Flash-based, and anti-fuse-based, with the SRAM approach possessing total market control, at least at this time. This report analyzes this technology, and forecasts future market growth. Examined in this report is consumption of FPGAs, by geographic region, as well as end-use consumption of this product technology, at the first- and second-level. Also included, is a 2004/2005 market share comparison, along with a brief discussion of the various players in this market, all six of them.
