This Frost & Sullivan research service titled World Next-Generation Mobile Software Market provides an overview of market size, share, and a forecast of the greater mobile software market along with drivers, restraints, and challenges as well as technology trends and strategies for all mobile value chain players. In this research, Frost & Sullivan's expert analysts thoroughly examine the following market segments: application execution environment, operating systems, user interface and application, and mobile device management.

Global Mobile Software Market Set to Grow Due to Enhanced Network Speeds

Though the global mobile software market has a very small share of the total software market, it is poised to grow at a faster rate, thereby increasing segment share. Even as mobile devices prices have declined, their processor speed and memory has gone up. Feature-rich mobile smart phones hold the key to greater use of mobile software for a variety of consumer-driven functions. The hardware for greater use of mobile devices is in place and service providers are now looking to developers to come up with mobile-specific software. As of now, software is first developed for other electronic goods and then adapted to use by mobile devices. This trend is expected to be reversed in the near future.

The deployment of third-generation (3G) networks is another factor that is set to boost mobile software use. "Strong growth in messaging revenues and the impact of mobile data plans and premium mobile content services were the main reasons behind the 87.2 percent increase in mobile data revenues in 2007 (over 2006)," says the analyst of this research. "While messaging will continue being the primary contributor to the mobile data revenue pie, 3G services and premium mobile content will also be strong segments."

Mobile Device Management Segment Set to Receive Boost

Though the mobile device management segment is the smallest of all market segments, it is the one that is set to grow at the fastest pace. This is because of its ability to offer carriers substantial advantages in terms of capabilities and cost savings. "Carriers will rely on mobile device management to rectify the constant mistakes and security errors or leaks in their business models," notes the analyst. "Mobile device management will be a very ‘sticky’ application for carriers as they will learn to use it increasingly as time goes on."

However, all the segments of the mobile software space are expected to grow greatly in the coming years. The mobile software market will see unparalleled technological advancement, competitive changes, and greatly increased standardization of software systems and processes, and thereby, achieve exponential revenue growth. This revenue growth will come by patching endless gaps and chinks in the current carrier service infrastructure and business models.
