This Financial Insights report elaborates the key points discussed at the Financial Insights Indonesia Banking Roundtable. The roundtable forum is a part of a series of roundtables that Financial Insights organizes around the region. In addition to the viewpoints of local and foreign banks in Indonesia and their technology strategies and concerns, this report presents a deeper examination of the security and infrastructure initiatives by the participating institutions. Abhishek Kumar, senior research analyst, Asia/Pacific Banking Advisory Service, states, "Indonesia's banks are now taking an active approach with regard to the crisis, seeking to increase operational efficiency and do more with existing assets, rather than the passive approach of cost cutting in the hopes of maintaining the status quo." Kumar also states that banks will go about this strategy by leveraging technology. He concludes, "Despite claims of drastic decreases in IT spending, our roundtable survey shows that only 23% stated they intended to do so, while the rest were seeking to increase spending or hold it constant. This signifies that Indonesia's banks will tend to be more cautious in making technology investments, rather than cutting back on them."
