The big guys are always after the little guys. Larger vendors such as Motorola, Cisco and Ericsson have already put napkins on
their laps and started acquiring key niche vendors focused on video headend solutions, which Yankee Group refers to as the
video service infrastructure (VSI) market. Motorola has swallowed up Tut Systems, Modulus Video and Terayon in the past
year, adding to its acquisitions portfolio of General Instrument, Kreatel Communications and Broadbus Technologies. Cisco has
been relatively quiet after its Scientific Atlanta and Arroyo acquisitions. Ericsson snagged TANDBERG Television to establish
a strong position in the video market.
