This IDC study analyzes the competitive environment of the Unix server market in Japan as of 1Q04 (January to March). The analysis is limited to the leading five vendors in the Unix server market in Japan. It examines the positioning of the top five vendors using the IDC Leadership Grid.

"The Unix server market in Japan is not expected to expand. It is important for vendors to acquire contracts for renewal from existing users. Attractive marketing strategies, the competitiveness of the product itself, and the reinforcement of partnership are important factors if vendors are to succeed," observes Masahide Ishii, research analyst, Server, IDC Japan.
