This study presents IDC Leadership Grid of the 2005 top 20 European solution services providers, as well as 2004 market shares. In order to position the vendors on the Leadership Grid, IDC has estimated each vendor's opportunity alignment and ability to gain share. The study discusses each vendor's position, with strengths and weaknesses according to IDC's criteria.
While IBM Global Services was the leader in both ability to gain share and opportunity alignment in 2004, IBM is now vying with Accenture for a definitive leadership position. Capgemini has improved its position compared to 2004. "For services firms to be successful in the solution services market, they should differentiate themselves in the homogeneous market, and develop a global sourcing strategy to keep operating cost down," said Marianne Kolding, research director, IDC European Services. Erik Bruin, research manager, IDC European Services, adds, "Business solution services vendors need to develop adequate offerings around service-oriented architecture, but also look a step further to composite applications. Such applications are ideal for SIs to win significant services shares in specific segments."
