This IDC study provides a competitive analysis of the Malaysia desktop and notebook PC vendors. Using the IDC Leadership Grid, this study reveals the expected positions of each vendor within the desktop and notebook PC segments. This study also presents four major mistakes vendors most often make and three trajectories to counter such mistakes or deficiencies.
"Most PC vendors apply inappropriate levels of competition, have mistaken perceptions on competitive advantages, usually mismanage their go-to-market strategies, and rely on incorrect information. The message is, therefore, apparent ? there is something wrong with the way they manage and implement their strategies. Even worse, their assumptions about the level of competition to apply are most inappropriate," says Andrew Wong, research manager, IDC Malaysia. "To counter such deficiencies, IDC identified three trajectories ? cost-efficient component sourcing, strategic resource and operation management, flexible channel management ? that will not only ensure the survival of vendors in the current hypercompetitive market but also make sure that they sustain their businesses' profitability," he further adds.
