This IDC update discusses several noteworthy events in the PC industry in August. The topic of the month was battery recalls and safety. Dell and Apple announced some wide-scale, voluntary battery recalls. Dell also announced a highly anticipated desktop relationship with AMD. Not to be outdone, Intel and notebook partners announced units using new mobile processors. This month we also saw public demonstrations of Apple's upcoming operating system, code-named Leopard.
