FMC Does Not Have a Bright Future in Canada
Canada is a relatively new market for fixed-mobile convergence (FMC). Its consolidated vendor landscape and large number of
SMBs make it an intriguing target for FMC vendors, but caution is required. Underlying conditions in the Canadian SMB
market are not favorable for widespread FMC adoption. Trends such as a growing interest in mobile applications for managing
mobile workforces combined with a troubling mix of installed infrastructure raise clear red flags for FMC adoption. Canadian
carriers should look to the tepid reception for FMC in Europe for the telltale signs of an immature technology before deploying
the technology domestically.
