This report presents survey data on broad IT purchasing behavior in the education market, as well as data specific to WAN services and wireless data services.

The education vertical includes K through 12 schools and higher education institutions, both public and private.

The education vertical is not as sophisticated as others when it comes to technology. This is shown in survey data where the largest group of education respondents (42%) indicated that their organizations stay current on technology without getting too far ahead or behind their competition, compared to 36% of other respondents. Survey results show that decision-makers in this vertical will allow a longer time for a satisfactory return on IT investments than those in other verticals.

For education organizations, the most important factors when purchasing WAN services are improving network security and increased capacity/bandwidth requirements, similar to other firms. However, education organizations' decisions to implement WAN services are more likely to be influenced by a need to support video applications.

When selecting a wireless data service provider, education organizations are most likely to find service price and service quality (fewest dropped sessions) important. As far as the primary benefits expected from implementing a wireless data solution, education decision-makers indicated most often increased employee productivity and efficiency and increased customer service as benefits.
