| This IDC study focuses on the push-to-talk market in Western Europe.
Analysis is provided on the current and future push-to-talk (PTT) market In
Western Europe. Handset vendors have recently launched a development campaign
in order to standardize the use of PTT around Europe. This study provides a
list of companies who are already developing or trialing the service.
The information provided in this study is essential reading for mobile
operators, handset manufacturers, solution providers, and any other player in
the mobile market that is interested in PTT services.
The study will provide these companies with essential data and analysis on how
the PTT market will move over the next few years, giving examples of which
market segments will be more interested in the service.
According to Rosie Secchi, senior research analyst at IDC's European Wireless
and Mobile Communications group, "Whatever mobile operators do around
technology is not that important for mobile users. All they want is a seamless,
easy-to-use and affordable PTT service, be it on GPRS, EDGE, or UMTS. Mobile
operators across Europe need to understand that they need to offer an
experience, not a technology."
"As for all the services launched in the mobile market ? data services in
particular ? interoperability between networks plays a vital part in the take
up and consequent success of PTT services. In order to achieve this, mobile
network operators should allow partnerships to give each other's customers
access to all their services."
