| This IDC study forecasts enhanced calling features penetration and revenue
opportunities over the next five years and identifies opportunities in
bundling, product innovation, and service improvements to reinvigorate the U.S.
residential enhanced calling features market.
This market collects over $10 billion in revenue per year, enjoys high margins,
and is strategically important for household adoption of high-end consumer
communications services bundles, including wireline, wireless, data, and video
services. However, as residential wireline telephone subscription rates
continue to fall, the negative impact on calling features penetration rates is
significant, and we expect this decline to continue in the near future.
"The market for caller ID and call waiting is saturated," says Wu Zhou, IDC
research analyst, Residential Telecommunications Services. "The challenge ahead
for residential service providers and wireline vendors is how to capitalize on
shifting trends in a lucrative but maturing market."
