Accounting for about half of the country’s telecoms revenues, Romania’s telecoms market increased interms of value by nearly 30% in 2006 to about EUR4bn, according to BMI estimates. Helping thisgrowth is the rise of the alternative operator in Romania with companies such as UPC and RCS&RDSputting an increase amount of pressure on incumbent operator Romtelecom. This they are doing byoffering multiple services and in the case of RCS&RDS, the provider is looking to supply quadruple-playservices with the introduction of its 3G services.
