This IDC study provides an analysis and forecast of the U.S. satellite radio market, including quarterly historical subscriber numbers for Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio and forecast annual subscribers and revenue. The study also includes unit shipments of portable/transportable, home, and automotive satellite radio receiver form factors and revenue.
The study has two central sections: The Situation Overview section reviews current market trends and discusses recent developments in the market, and the Future Outlook section outlines IDC's assumptions about market trends during the forecast period and presents forecast data and analysis for the period 2004?2009.
"Satellite digital radio is quickly evolving in the United States from a new and unfamiliar model of premium radio service delivery to being an increasingly mainstream consumer audio technology," says Susan Kevorkian, program manager for IDC's Consumer Markets: Audio service. "IDC forecasts that U.S. satellite radio subscribers will grow from 4.37 million in 2004 to over 34 million in 2009, propelled by factory integration of satellite radio receivers in new cars as well as the availability of portable and transportable receiver form factors."
