Saudi Arabia Telecommunications Report Q1 2008
|

Business Monitor International’s latest Saudi Arabia Telecommunications Report shows the country atthe top of our Business Environment Rankings, ahead of Bahrain, Kuwait and Israel. Saudi Arabia’stelecoms market is characterised by the determination of the regulator to provide competition in the fixedline, mobile and internet markets. Furthermore, a strong economy is providing an environment fit forinward investment, and the ingredients for growth in both the fixed-line and mobile markets. Long goneare the days when incumbent operator Saudi Telecommunications Company (STC) controlled thetelecoms industry - it now has to fight it out for market share with Mobily in the mobile market (andsoon Zain, which is due to launch commercial services in 2008 and become Saudi Arabia’s third mobilenetwork operator). Meanwhile, STC will be one of four operators in Saudi Arabia’s fixed-line marketwith consortia headed by Verizon, PCCW and Batelco all winning concessions to operate fixed-linenetworks from 2008.
