This study discusses the market for electronic peripherals - single-function and multifunctional - used within all levels of computer systems. It does not cover point-of-sale printers or small-format printers featuring widths of less than eight inches. It also does not cover wide format (A0) products, sometimes known as plotters. The forecasts contain data for the South African peripherals market from 2006 through 2010. Unit shipments, value of shipments, and average street price (ASP) information is presented. Data for 2004-2005 is actual and data for 2006-2010 is projected.
"The South African hardcopy peripherals market is maturing but lucrative pockets of opportunity remain both within this market and in adjacent markets. Phenomenal growth in the MFP market will continue to offer vendors better financial return than the maturing single-function markets. Vendors need to keep an eye on their B2C strategies, as color adoption is rising driven by competitive pricing. Vendors will face revenue growth challenges if output volumes are less than planned and color growth is being offset by declines in the monochrome segments." - Loretta Pein, Research Manager, IDC CEMA
