South Korea Telecommunications Report Q1 2008

This quarter has seen a revision to both our fixed-line and broadband forecasts. There were a reported22.214mn fixed lines in service at the end of September 2007, driven by No.2 operator Hanaro Telecom, with 80,000 net additions over the quarter, followed by LG Telecom, (27,000) and offsetting the declinein KT’s subscriber base. However, with KT continuing to dominate the sector with over 90% marketshare, we do not envisage that growth will continue. Set to achieve a penetration rate of 46.4% by the endof 2007, BMI is forecasting a further rate decline to end on 44.8% by 2012.
