This IDC Flash describes an update to the technical road map for SPARC64 RISC processors, which are sold in server systems made by Sun Microsystems and the Fujitsu Group of companies. SPARC64, which was developed by Fujitsu Ltd., is moving from a 90nm process to a 65nm process -and it is part of a road map that includes future "speed bumps" and a follow-on processor product. As announced, the new SPARC64 VII processor has a quad-core design and eight threads due to the processors' two-threads/core specifications. IDC expects this processor to be leveraged in midrange and high-end M-Series systems sold by both vendors.
