The Taiwanese Server Industry, 2008 and Beyond
|

| In 2007, demand for low-priced servers remained strong in the Asia region and in emerging markets in other parts of the world. Economic growth in the United States and in Western Europe was sufficiently strong to ensure that year-end corporate IT spending in these markets rose rather than falling. As a result, the global server market as a whole remained relatively stable in 2007. With the leading international server brands becoming more willing to award contract production for server full-systems, Taiwanese server full-system and barebone shipment volume rose by 8.32% in 2007 to reach 2.95 million units; meanwhile, Taiwanese server motherboard shipments rose by only 7.09%, to 4.36 million units. This report will examine the evolution of the Taiwanese server industry over the past few years, analyzing the industry's shipment volume, shipment value and product specifications, and seeking to forecast how the industry will perform in 2008.
