This IDC study provides an analysis and forecast of the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) or APEJ region for the compressed audio (MP3) player market and for the mobile phone market. The study has two central sections. The Situation Overview section reviews current market trends for music-enabled mobile phones and portable MP3 players at the regional level. In addition, data from the Asia/Pacific Joint Mobility Survey, 2006 and from the Asia/Pacific Audio/Video Consumer Survey, 2006 is presented. The Future Outlook section outlines IDC's assumptions about market trends during the forecast period and presents forecast data and analysis for the music-enabled mobile phones and the portable MP3 players for the period from 2006 to 2010.
"Despite suggestions that music phones are on a collision course with standalone MP3 players, rumors of the latter's demise are very much exaggerated. Based on IDC's primary research in mobile devices and consumer markets, we find that there remains room for both music phones and MP3 players to grow in Asia/Pacific. A lot of room, in fact," says Aloysius Choong, Mobile Devices Research, IDC Asia/Pacific.
