Based on existing trends, the market for telecommunications and data cable is forecast to grow almost 16% between 1999 and 2006, from almost US$32 billion to US$37 billion. This represents average annual growth of 2% a year, considerably less than some of the numbers being quoted at the height of the dot.com bubble. Unsurprisingly, North America is the largest market for telecommunications and data cable, accounting for 36% of global consumption, while Asia is also a considerable size, comprising 34%. The most significant producer is the USA, manufacturing over US$10 billion, while China and Japan are producing over US$3 billion. This report consolidates and reviews information on co-axial cable, copper telecoms cable in over 200 countries from 1999, with forecasts forward to 2006.
This report includes all types of telecommunications and data cable, including optical fibre (fiber) cable.
