UK Telecommunications Report Q1 2008
In the first nine months of 2007, the number of UK mobile subscribers grew by 2.3% to reach 72.248mnsubscribers. The UK sector saw 0.37% in the first quarter and 0.66% growth in the second quarter, beforeseeing a 1.3% spurt in growth in Q307; based on these growth trends, BMI estimates that there were73.837mn UK mobile subscribers at the end of 2007. Although this estimate is lower than our previousfigure of 73.914mn, it is still based on anticipated Q407 growth rate of 2.2%, which is slightly higher thanthe 2.1% growth in Q406. We believe that the market will expand by another 2.4% in 2008 and by around2.2% the following year. According to our newly-extended mobile forecast for the UK, we expect there tobe just over 80mn subscribers in the market by the end of 2012, which is equivalent to a penetration rateof just over 127%.
