This IDC Presentation discusses the calculation of network equipment spending by vertical industry and company size segment, which offers valuable insight into growth opportunities for vendors. The examination of network equipment spending by place on the network offers further insight of user requirements. Combining these two disciplines to decipher vertical industry and company size spending by place on the network allows vendors to capitalize on knowledge of industry-specific needs to address specific business processes, gain share, and drive revenue growth in a challenging sales environment.
This presentation reveals the results of IDC's annual Enterprise Network Equipment Vertical View Survey. In 1Q and 2Q of 2006, over 1,060 respondents reported their average spending on network equipment by place on the network. Their options consisted of the following:
Datacenter networks
Headquarter or campus networks, excluding datacenter
Branch office networks
Temporary networks
Teleworker connectivity (exclude spending on devices)
Responses were segmented by 17 vertical industries and four company size segments, as defined in the Methodology section of this presentation. The portion of reported spending was applied to the total network equipment spending reported by each respondent at the start of the survey in order to weight the data.
