The remote branch is shaping up to be a key battleground in the IT market. Because the branch is closest to the end customer, it is strategic to the business. Yet the need for IT resources at the branch is balanced by the costs associated with having server and storage resources replicated across hundreds and/or thousands of remote branch locations. IDC believes that WAN application delivery is becoming a key technology in enabling customers to achieve the best of both worlds at the branch. WAN application delivery products can enable the business to meet two often conflicting goals: respond in real time to business need and reduce IT spend.
