This study contains an assessment of the Western European cable modem equipment market in 2004 and a forecast for the 2005?2009 period. Shipment and revenue expectations are provided, by country, for cable modem terminating systems (CMTS) and standalone cable modems. Cable modems that are integrated in set-top boxes to add interactivity to TV services are excluded.

"Where cable modem services are available in Western Europe, competition between cable and DSL providers is very intense," said Jan Hein Bakkers, Research Manager for IDC's European Telecoms and Networking team. "In this battle they need to be able to offer more bandwidth and VoIP services. This will remain a driving factor behind demand for cable modem equipment."
