The Western European disk storage systems market grew to almost $7.2 billion in market value in 2005. This was partly driven by cyclically strong 4Q spending and by a recovery within the Italian disk storage systems market. Also helping to push market growth were product refreshes by EMC (DMX-3) and HP (EVA family). New Terabyte shipments were up 52% for the year to 707,166. Once again, the largest markets for the year were Germany, the U.K., France, and Italy. HP retained its top supplier rankings for total disk systems sales (internal and external arrays) and accounted for 24.7% of factory revenue. IBM, EMC, Dell, Fujitsu Siemens, and Sun Microsystems rounded out the top 5 rankings with 20%, 12.2%, 6.3%, 5.6%, and 5.3% respective market share. Dell and Network Appliance were the fastest growing suppliers in this region. Dell increased its factory revenue 34% over 2004, while Network Appliance's revenue increase 23%.
