This IDC study examines the Western European LAN switch market in the first half of 2004 and analyzes the major segments and broad trends within that marketplace. Included in the review are figures for the Western European market size and the market share of the LAN switch vendors that participate in this marketplace.

"The adoption of Gigabit Ethernet and Layer 3 by enterprises has been really phenomenal, and as vendors continue to expand their Gigabit Ethernet and Layer 3 LAN switch portfolio, IDC expects that both segments will continue to grow strongly in the second half of 2004," said Peter Hulleman, senior research analyst with IDC's European Telecommunications and Networking group.
