This IDC study contains IDC's actual 2003 and 2004 LAN switch results and IDC's 2005?2009 forecast estimates for Western Europe port shipments, revenue, average selling price (ASP), and installed base.

Forecasts are provided by technology for Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, and 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE), by Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) layer for Layers 2, 3, and 4?7 and by form factor for modular, nonmodular, and unmanaged LAN switch port shipments, ASP, installed base, and revenue. A geographical split is included for Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

"IDC expects the Western European LAN switch will continue to benefit from the replacement cycle that started in 2004," said Peter Hulleman, senior research analyst, European Telecommunications and Networking team.
