This IDC study examines the Western European service provider infrastructure market in 2003. Data is split by network equipment, vendor, and country. Equipment infrastructures include routers, local area network (LAN) switches, wide area network (WAN) switches, remote access servers (RASs), optical, generic digital subscriber line (xDSL) network equipment, headend cable networks, and cable modem terminating equipment (CMTE).
The countries included are Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Switzerland, Austria, Greece, Portugal, Ireland, and Spain. Market shares are calculated according to end-user revenue in calendar year 2003.
The study addresses the following issues:
How much did service providers spend on network equipment in 2003?
Who were the main vendors of network equipment?
Which types of network equipment generated the greatest demand within the service provider community?
What were the main Western European countries in terms of service provider spending?
According to Romolo Pusceddu, research manager for IDC's European Service Provider program, "In 2003, Western European service providers continued to be prudent about network equipment spending."
