Mobile service providers - including mobile network operators (MNOs), mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs), mobile virtual network enablers (MVNEs), enhanced service providers (ESPs) and others - are now among the most important customers for wholesale services. Not only are they a major source of wholesale revenues, but they also use some of the most innovative and complex wholesale telecoms services.
MVNOs, MVNEs and ESPs are, by definition, dependent on wholesale services provided by their ‘host’ mobile networks. MNOs also use services from other telecoms operators to support their retail (and wholesale) offerings.
In this report we present a topography for describing the wholesale services that mobile service providers use.
