This IDC study examines the cellular equipment market as defined by technologies such as GSM/UMTS and CDMA, and it presents a five-year forecast for cellular infrastructure spending by network operators and service providers worldwide. It also studies the performance of equipment vendors and evaluates the key aspects to industry-leading growth performance.

"The cellular segment is a diverse and dynamic market defined by scale. Scale is delivered by the $50-billion-a-year opportunity in cellular infrastructure technologies such as GSM/UMTS and CDMA. Amid this scale, however, is the reality of a market that is, as a whole, mature and in a relative steady state," says Godfrey Chua, IDC's research manager for the Wireless and Mobile Infrastructure practice.
