This IDC study examines the market for DBA tools and utilities, which is a competitive market that includes both independent DBA tools and DBA tool functionality found in DBMS products, with the revenue for the latter extrapolated from DBMS revenue associated with the products in question. It includes vendor revenue figures for this market and a detailed discussion of each of the ten leading vendors involved.
"DBA tool vendors should be aware that both database technologies and the data they manage are expected to become simpler from a usability perspective and more integrated, and that database technology is evolving together with application server, integration server, and messaging platform technologies into an increasingly integrated application software platform," comments Carl Olofson, program director for the Information Management and Data Integration Software research program. "DBA tools and utilities can play a key role in fulfilling the DBMS dimension of that platform."
