This IDC study examines the growth of the network-enabled video devices market in the United States and worldwide. The study focuses on the key drivers and inhibitors of networked video entertainment in the home and the primary video-centric devices that will facilitate the sharing of content. The study contains forecasts of network-enabled digital video recorders (DVRs), DVD players and recorders, digital televisions, and video-centric media adapter and media servers devices.
"There is no consistent user experience today, and therefore, each device category has its own sets of pros and cons. Nevertheless, networking is an increasingly common facet of consumer video devices," says Greg Ireland, research manager in IDC's Consumer Markets research group. "We forecast worldwide network-enabled video device shipments will reach 167.4 million in 2012, up from just 11.4 million in 2007 across the media adapter and server, television, DVD player/recorder, and DVR market segments."
