This IDC study forecasts both the short-term and long-term NAND market by unit and bit demand, average selling price (ASP), and revenue. NAND bit demand is segmented by application where IDC forecasts both unit shipments and NAND content per system on a quarterly basis.
"IDC predicts that the growth of the 2006 NAND market will slow to 17% due to the lack of demand drivers and the suppliers' race toward capacity expansion. The market in 2007 will be stagnant after considerable correction in the first half. In the long term, DSC and MP3 will be replaced by mobile phone as a key demand driver. In addition, SSD and NAND caching will begin influencing the market in 2010. IDC expects the market will require new demand drivers to continue a strong trajectory of growth," said Soo-Kyoum Kim, program director for Semiconductors at IDC.
