This IDC study reviews the performance of the worldwide PC market during the second quarter of 2006 (2Q06). This study looks at the market performance of desktop and portable PCs as well as provides some commentary on x86 servers in major geographies, including the United States, Western Europe, Japan, Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan), and the rest of the world (ROW). Details on unit shipments, market value, and average selling prices (ASPs) are provided, along with a review of the competitive performance of the top PC vendors.
"Growth in worldwide PC shipments in 2Q06 continued to slow, given the strength of 2005. Nevertheless, unit shipments remained in positive territory compared with last year, despite a 2% sequential dip. Growing portable adoption, falling prices, incomplete market penetration, and continuing technology development helped sustain the growth registered in the quarter, and we expect this trend will continue to fuel positive growth throughout 2010." ?
