This IDC study reviews the performance of the worldwide PC market during the third quarter of 2007 (3Q07). It looks at the market performance of desktop and portable PCs and provides some commentary on x86 servers in major geographies, including the United States, Western Europe, Japan, Asia/Pacific excluding Japan (APEJ), and the rest of the world. Details on unit shipments, market value, and average selling price are provided, along with a review of the competitive performance of the top PC vendors.
"The PC market expanded by 16.0% in the third quarter, driven by sustained notebook adoption and strong demand in emerging markets. As in previous periods, notebook shipments remained the leading form factor, with the drop of average selling prices and ease of connectivity helping drive sales. While desktop shipments remained positive, growth in mature regions remained under pressure, essentially continuing to contract," says Doug Bell, analyst with IDC.
