This IDC study examines the performance and market share of vendors in the PC microprocessor (x86 and PowerPC) market during the calendar year 2007. Overall unit and revenue market shares by vendor are included, as well as unit splits for desktop PC processors, mobile PC, and PC server processors. Vendors of non-PC processors (i.e., RISC processors for Unix-based workstations and servers) are not covered in this study. Vendors of processors that are used in non-PC applications, such as game consoles and thin clients, are not covered in this study.
"Several factors, including good end demand, the desktop-to-mobile transition, and vendor price competition, drove the PC processor market to exceed forecasts and reach record levels yet again in 2007." - Shane Rau, research director, IDC's Semiconductors: Personal Computing research program
